7 Stories of Remarkable Muslim Children Who Will Inspire You
Muslimkaffah - The current generation of children indeed face more challenges than their parents did when they were growing up. But this doesn’t mean that young people today are any less capable or successful than their predecessors; it just means they have to work harder to achieve their goals and dreams. Here are seven stories of remarkable Muslim children who followed their faith, overcame obstacles, and achieved amazing things despite the odds against them.
1) The child who memorized Qur'an at the age 5
The Qur'an is the holy book that Muslims believe was
revealed to Muhammad by God. Memorizing it before adulthood is a blessing.
Islamic children may be expected to start memorizing verses from an early age
and by the time they're five, they can recite at least one-third of the Qur'an,
even though they may not yet fully understand all its meanings.
the 5-year-old Imran makes learning to read as easy as A B
C.
Taha is a 5-year-old who learned to read when he was just 18
months old. He hails from Haripur, Pakistan.
2) The child who refused his parent's gift because it was from a non-Muslim
When Haitham heard about the struggles Syrians were facing
in fleeing their country, he refused to take his parents’ new car as a gift. He
told them: I want to sell it and give the money to a Syrian family who fled
from Syria because they need it more than we do. His parents knew he was
serious and agreed. They sold the car, donated half the profits, gave Haitham a
cash allowance, and saved half for an emergency.
Haitham wasn’t always like that. Like all children, he used
to be an attention-seeking, mischievous toddler who loved playing with his
toys. When he started school and realized that all his friends were getting new
clothes, shoes, and bags on Eid (an Islamic holiday), he begged his parents for
gifts too.
3) The child who made a $2,000 donation for Gaza victims
One such remarkable story is that of the Hiba Al-Hassan who
donated $2,000 to aid Gaza relief from her lemonade stand profits. The
ten-year-old girl didn't take a penny for herself and put the money into an
account for children living in Gaza.
Hiba's actions have inspired many others. After she told her
story on local news channels, donations came in from around America and Europe.
Even world leaders like Barack Obama and Michelle Obama became involved, both
donating $5 to Hiba's fund. She has become a role model for Muslims everywhere.
4) The child who turned down an $80m inheritance to give to charity
In 2003, Zayd Al-Dayyan, who was 10 years old at the time,
received an inheritance of more than $80 million from his mother's will. But he
refused to spend a single penny and instead donated all the money to charity.
He became the youngest person ever to sign The Giving Pledge--a commitment to
give away half one's wealth for philanthropic purposes--at the age of 13.
As well as being extremely wealthy, Zayd was born with
prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, which meant he could not recognize
faces. In 2006, when he was 14 years old, he set up The Al-Dayyan Foundation to
support children and young adults with the same disability. His aim is to one
day eradicate it by funding research into stem cell therapy.
5) The boy who memorized the longest verse of Qur'an by heart at age 11
Inspired by the Holy Qur'an and his father, Usman memorized
the longest verse of Qur'an by heart when he was only 11 years old. The verse
is translated as: And we have sent you (O Muhammad) not but as a mercy for all
creatures. After completing his Masters in Economics from Cornell University,
Usman now dedicates himself to providing inspirational talks on the value of
giving back and inspiring talks on religious guidance.
6) The young girl who refused to learn Math unless her school taught religion too
A young girl named Safa finds herself attending a new school
that does not offer any religious instruction. Safa is so taken by the idea of
having religion in her school, she declares that she will refuse to learn math
unless her school also teaches religion too. Safa did end up learning math, but
was still able to attend classes in religion with the other students at the
same time!
7) The young boy gave his pocket money as charity every day
Mubarak had his grandfather who took him to the masjid every
day. One day, Mubarak's grandfather gave Mubarak some money and told him that
it was his pocket money. But, Mubarak said he already gave his pocket money
away. The grandfather then reminded Mubarak to give charity before spending any
money. The next day, when they were leaving the masjid after prayer, Mubarak
saw a beggar on the street and gave him what he had left in his pocket -
nothing.
Wallohua'alam.
